May 16th 2012, Board management of urban railway Ho Chi Minh, who represent for People’s Committee Ho Chi Minh City, have signed the full package contract (EPC) of package No.2 of Metro line No.1 ( Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) with Sumitomo Japan contractor and Cienco 6.

This package is the one of four packages that will be deployed by Sumitomo-Cienco joint venture within 4 years.

Metro line No.1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) & station No.6 (Thao Dien) will link to Thaodien Pearl project directly by a passage bridge.

After finishing and putting in operation, this metro line no.1 will meet transportation need increase in HCMC, to contribute pushing economy growth of area and decrease environment pollution.
Vietnam government has signed two agreements to loan 65,1billion Yen from JICA (Japan). JICA will deliver the next loan for project based on reality progress.
Metro line No.1 with a length of 19, 7 km (2.2 km long underground section and 17.5 km long elevated section) go through District 1, Binh Thanh District, District 2 & 9, Thu Duc District and Di An suburban district (Binh Duong province). With total investment is 236 billion Yen (equivalent 47.000 billion VND). The completion time expect to in 2012, put to operation in 2018.

At signed ceremony, Deputy president of People's Committee Ho Chi Minh City – Mr Nguyen Huu Tin have empowering to districts where have metro line no.1 go through must hand over ground to contractor for ground breaking Metro line No.1 on September 2012.
